848 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has evidence that political parties or individual members of the Houses of the Oireachtas are involved in illegal activities or organised crime. [1185/04]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe Deputy will appreciate that the collection of evidence regarding criminal activity in particular cases is a matter for the Garda Síochána. However, in so far as the Deputy's question may arise in the context of public comments which I have made relating to the funding of a particular party in this House, I can tell him on the basis of the briefings available to me that I stand by those comments, and that will remain my position until such time as it is clear that all criminal activity carried out by or to the benefit of a particular paramilitary organisation, with links to that party, has ceased completely.
