Section 5 of the Aliens Act 1935 empowers the Minister to make a range of orders for the purpose of immigration control. Consequently, there are no powers of detention specified in that provision.

Amharc ar fhreagraSection 5 of the Immigration Act 1999 covers the arrest, detention and removal of non-nationals from the State. The number of persons deported per annum is as follows: 2000 — 194; 2001 — 365; 2002 — 547; 2003 — 584.
