The provision of health related services for people with physical and-or sensory disabilities is a matter for the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the health boards in the first instance. Accordingly, the Deputy's question has been referred to the chief executive officer of the Western Health Board with a request that she examine the matter and reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

406 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the action he has taken to provide services and support for persons (details supplied) in County Kilkenny who are autistic; the assessments which have been made and the action which is planned; if the parents of these persons have been met by his Department or anyone representing his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Responsibility for the provision of services to persons with autism in the Kilkenny region lies with the South Eastern Health Board. My Department has, therefore, asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the matters raised and to reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency. Officials from my Department have not met with the parents of the persons in question.
