424 Mr. O'Connor asked the Minister for Transport if he will confirm the schedule being followed in respect of the development of the Luas line to Tallaght; his views on the strong support for his plans; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2780/04]
Amharc ar fhreagraResponsibility for the day to day management of the Luas project rests with the Railway Procurement, RPA. However, I understand from the RPA that construction will be completed by May 2004 for the Tallaght to Connolly Station line, line A/C, and March 2004 for the Sandyford to St. Stephen's Green Line, line B. Following a period of testing and commissioning, passenger services will begin at the end of August 2004 for the Tallaght to Connolly line and at the end of June 2004 for the Sandyford to St. Stephen's Green line. Public reaction to the introduction of the Luas has been positive. I am aware that the services are eagerly awaited by the people of Tallaght and other communities along the routes it will serve.
