187 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if he has satisfied himself that breaches of conditions imposed on companies on integrated pollution control licences are sufficiently strong; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2873/04]
Amharc ar fhreagraI am satisfied that the penalties for breaches of the terms of integrated pollution prevention and control licences issued by the Environmental Protection Agency under the Environmental Protection Agency Act 1992 are set at an appropriate level. These penalties were increased significantly by section 10 of the Protection of the Environment Act 2003, which was brought into operation with effect from 22 October 2003.
