253 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will urgently meet the consultants in order to resolve the current dispute; and if he will give the 1,500 consultants the maximum support and assistance in carrying out their professional duties. [5138/04]
Amharc ar fhreagraI have had several meetings with the Irish Hospital Consultants Association and the Irish Medical Organisation in recent weeks. Between meetings, I have had regular contact with their respective leaders. The Government has given repeated assurances to consultants that it will fully support any Irish consultant member of the Medical Defence Union who is left without indemnity cover as a result of the exercise of an arbitrary discretion by that organisation.
