Ceisteanna (205)

Thomas P. Broughan

Ceist:

285 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the action he proposes to take in regard to the recommendation of the South Western Regional Fisheries board to change the law in regard to draft net fishing for salmon in Cork Harbour in view of the fact that the River Lee as a salmon river has been under such pressure for many years and that salmon anglers and trout and coarse angling colleagues are outraged by the proposed recommendation. I have very recently received the recommendations of the South Western Regional Fisheries Board following on the report which it commissioned last year to investigate the operational efficiency of different methods of draft net fishing in the Cork Harbour area.

I am aware of the divergent views expressed in relation to the findings contained in the report. It is my intention to carefully consider the recommendations in some detail before deciding on what appropriate action to take.
