Ceisteanna (272)

John Perry

Ceist:

352 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Transport if he will ensure that new carriages are put in place on the Sligo-Dublin trains in view of the fact that they are overcrowded, particularly when used by students returning to college; when they will be sanctioned; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The allocation of rolling stock and the timetabling of trains is an operational matter for Iarnród Éireann. However, I am informed by Iarnród Éireann that it has 67 new mainline railway carriages on order for delivery in 2005. The delivery of these vehicles will allow Iarnród Éireann to retire some older rolling stock and upgrade its remaining fleet, including rolling stock on the Dublin-Sligo route.
