Ceisteanna (549)

Jan O'Sullivan

Ceist:

545 Ms O’Sullivan asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if there is legislation under his Department’s remit that gives a household the right to be protected from extra-strong lights shinning into the home from a neighbouring residence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. There is no legislation under my Department's remit concerning light pollution, and my stated view is that it would be premature to commit to new legislative or other systematic measures to address light pollution in view of the Government's ongoing priorities in the area of environmental legislation. I note that EU environmental policy is not as yet addressing the issue of light pollution.
