Amharc ar fhreagraI refer the Deputy to my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 505 of 11 March 2003. The use of electronic tagging systems to monitor offenders in other jurisdictions is an issue which my Department has been examining for some time. As I explained in my previous reply, difficulties have been encountered in these jurisdictions in developing fully effective electronic tagging systems, but developments in technology may provide solutions to these. These developments are now being examined by the prisons service in the light of advice from other jurisdictions, and I intend to keep the matter under close review.
