66 Mr. J. Brady asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the value and volume of wood products in 2003; and if he will make a statement on the degree to which timber and wood processing industries here are dependent on imports. [10434/04]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe volume produced by the sawmill sector in 2003 was approximately 1.15 million cubic metres with a value of €230 million. The volume produced by the boardmills was approximately 900,000 cubic metres with a value of €240 million. The total value of exports in 2003 was €230 million, with 2,000 employed. The boardmilling sector is self-sufficient in the raw materials it requires and is not dependent on imports; 3% of the sawmilling sector's requirements are met from imports.
