378 Mr. O’Shea asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of persons in each of the past five years and to date in 2004 who have been imprisoned arising from the non-payment of civil debts. [19530/04]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe information requested by the Deputy is not readily available and the compilation of these statistics would require a disproportionate and inordinate amount of staff time and effort to prepare and could not be justified in circumstances where there are other significant demands on resources. The Deputy may, however, be interested to know though that on 28 June 2004, there were only 11 persons in prison custody for debtor offences out of a total prison population of 3,218.
