Ceisteanna (810)

Jan O'Sullivan

Ceist:

991 Ms O’Sullivan asked the Minister for Transport if Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann will allow children who are over 16 going to and from school to pay fares at the child rate rather than the student rate in view of the extra cost involved for parents of second level students; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The provision of discounted fares for children and students is a day to day matter for Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann. Dublin Bus offers a facility to second level students in the 16-19 age category to avail of a special ticket giving two journeys at a discount rate of €1.50.

All Bus Éireann passengers can avail of weekly city tickets offering unlimited travel over seven days in Cork city. Children and students travelling on Bus Éireann local services throughout the country may also avail of a ten journey weekly commuter ticket valid over seven days.
