1061 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will provide a commencement date for the complete roll-out of the computerised penalty points system; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21678/04]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe live pilot of the Garda fixed charge processing system was implemented on target on 30 June last. Roll-out of the system on a nationwide basis will commence on successful completion of the pilot, the completion of some technical aspects of the project by the Garda Síochána and the putting in place of systems and procedures for the out-sourcing of the collection of payments. This latter aspect is planned to be completed within an eight to 12-week timeframe. Its commencement will also require the enactment of the Road Traffic Bill 2004 which is being progressed by the Minister for Transport. I assure the Deputy that every effort is being made to ensure that the system is rolled out nationwide as a matter of priority.
