Ceisteanna (253)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh

Ceist:

255 Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if there have been discussions between officials of his Department and the health boards and local authorities regarding the need to provide appropriate housing in the community which can address the accommodation needs of persons with schizophrenia and their carers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I assume that the question refers to accommodation that may be provided under the voluntary housing capital assistance scheme or arrangements made by the relevant health board.

The administration of the voluntary housing scheme and the certification that particular projects comply with the terms of the scheme are the responsibility of local authorities. However, any proposals which would meet the needs of the individuals concerned regarding such accommodation and application for funding should be submitted for consideration to the appropriate local authority.
