25 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the locations of all illegal dumps found by local authorities from 2000 to date; and the actions which have been taken in each case against the illegal dumpers by the relevant local authorities. [22603/04]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe information requested is not available in my Department. The Office of Environmental Enforcement, OEE, has commissioned a comprehensive study to establish and document the extent of unauthorised waste activities in Ireland, and the extent to which they occur in each of the 34 major local authority areas. The objectives of the project include to review and document the current procedures and practices used by the relevant authorities to investigate unauthorised waste activities, and also their use of powers available to tackle unauthorised activities. I expect this study to be completed early in 2005.
The OEE has also established an unauthorised waste working group, including representatives of the local authorities and my Department, whose functions include co-ordination of enforcement actions against companies and individuals involved in the illegal movement and disposal of waste in Ireland.
