Ceisteanna (430)

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

446 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Education and Science if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the proprietors of a private secondary school (details supplied) in Limerick have announced the closure of the school from September 2005; if her attention has further been drawn to the fact that no provision to provide alternative places for pre-junior certificate students has been made; the arrangements she will put in place in order that these students are offered places in second level schools in Limerick city; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I am aware that the private college in question has signalled its intention to close on completion of the current school year. Any pupils currently attending the college who may wish to obtain a place in a second level school recognised by my Department in the Limerick area, should make application directly to the schools in question.

My Department's responsibility is to ensure that recognised schools in an area can, between them, cater for all pupils seeking second level places in that area. I am confident that all pupils requiring a place in the Limerick area can be accommodated.
