107 Deputy Seán Sherlock asked the Minister for Finance if he is satisfied that the reduction in excise duty on alcohol as announced in budget 2010 has been passed on to the consumer; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12155/10]
Amharc ar fhreagraAs there was significant price discounting of some alcohol products taking place in the months prior to Christmas, especially in certain supermarkets, it is difficult to measure the degree to which the excise reductions announced in the Budget have been reflected in alcohol prices. However, taking a somewhat longer timeframe it would appear that the excise reductions have generally been reflected in the price of alcohol products. While not all due to the reduction in excise duty, there has also been a narrowing of price differentials relative to Northern Ireland for alcohol products.
