161 Deputy Noel J. Coonan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills the situation regarding the merger of Tipperary Institute and Limerick Institute of Technology; the timeframe for same; the new title for the Thurles campus; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [35707/10]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe position is that discussions are continuing between the Tipperary Institute and Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) with a view to institutional merger. The proposed merger has the support and agreement of the Governing Boards of both institutions and an inter-institutional group has now been formed which is working to a target of September 2011 for completion of the arrangements for a formal merger. I understand that the Boards of both institutions have also agreed that the new title for the Tipperary campuses will be LIT (Tipperary).
