51 Deputy Denis Naughten asked the Minister for Transport his plans to address the abuse of the penalty points system by persons not holding an Irish or UK driving licence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [42619/10]
Amharc ar fhreagraPart 5 of the Road Traffic Act, 2010 provides for the amendment of existing provisions relating to the endorsement of penalty points and disqualifications relating to non-national driving licence holders. The 2010 Act also gives the Gardaí powers to seize a licence where the driver has been disqualified, including following the accumulation of 12 penalty points.
Those provisions will be commenced in consultation with the relevant stakeholders as soon as the necessary administrative supports are in place.
