The term of the National Economic and Social Council (NESC) ended in summer 2010. The Government decided to change the composition of the NESC to reflect changes to the structure of social partnership, most notably the addition of the Environmental Pillar, and to increase the number of independent members of the Council. The National Economic and Social Development Act 2006 specifies that these changes must be made through secondary legislation. On 14th December 2010, I signed theNational Economic and Social Council (Alteration of Composition) Order 2010 facilitating these changes, following approval of the draft Order by both Houses of the Oireachtas.

Consequently, I appointed some new members of the Council as outlined below on 20th January, 2011. All of the appointments below were made either on the basis of nominations received from social partner organisations, and each Pillar of Social Partnership proposed individuals they deemed suitable to represent their respective Pillar, or are civil servants from the relevant Departments. No remuneration is payable for membership of the Council.
