As I indicated in my reply to Question No. 280 of 21 June 2011 a total of 165 cases had applications granted in 2010. I am informed by the Courts Service that this equates to sanctions imposed. The equivalent figure for 2009 was 202. The penalties on summary conviction under the Courts (No 2) Act 1986 as amended, are a fine of between €1,000 and €2,500 and/or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months.
