182 Deputy Michael Healy-Rae asked the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government his views on whether senior alert scheme which allows financial support to elderly persons for the use of personal pendant alarms should be extended to cover the installation of house alarms; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraThe Seniors Alert Scheme focuses mainly on the provision of monitored personal alert equipment. Personal alarms bring greater ease of mind to the user as they allow for direct two-way interaction with the monitoring station in the event of any concerns being raised by the user. They can also monitor many other features such as smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and other telecare devices.
I have no proposals to extend the scheme to cover house alarms.

A request for application forms was received on 15 September and a response issued on 16 September 2011. Completed application forms have not been received in my Department as yet.
