182 Deputy Dara Murphy asked the Minister for Defence the amount of funding given per annum to the veteran groups ONE and IUNVA over the past three years; his plan to recognise the Irish Legion Association; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [36721/11]
Amharc ar fhreagraIn the past three years the Organisation of National ex-Servicemen (O.N.E.) received a subvention of €40,000 per annum from my Department and the Irish United Nations Veterans Organisation (IUNVA) received a subvention of €10,000 per annum from my Department. The Department of Defence provides annual subventions to support and encourage the two officially recognised veteran groups, O.N.E. and IUNVA and representatives of both organisations hold formal meetings with Departmental officials. While there is a range of other associations involving serving, retired and ex-Defence Forces personnel representing various interests at local, regional and national level, the Department has no plans to formally recognise any further veteran or other similar associations. This position was communicated to the Irish Legion Association, by Departmental Officials, at a meeting on 18 November 2010.
