206 Deputy Billy Kelleher asked the Minister for Health the steps he has taken regarding establishing and utilising ethnic identifiers in healthcare systems; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20649/12]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe implementation of an ethnic identifier is a key element of ethnic equality monitoring as outlined in the HSE's National Intercultural Health Strategy 2007-2012. A pilot study was successfully conducted and this led to the development of the ethnic identifier that is currently in use in a number of clinical settings. A phased, prioritised program is now under way to extend the roll out of the ethnic identifier to capture key health information of minority ethnic groups in each HSE region.
