109 Deputy Thomas P. Broughan asked the Minister for Justice and Equality if he envisages that it will be necessary to hold a referendum in relation to aspects of a long-term solution for households heavily in debt with mortgage debt; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22265/12]
Amharc ar fhreagraI presume that the Deputy is referring to the proposed personal insolvency Bill. The Deputy will appreciate the complexities involved in drafting a Bill of this nature and that it is important that the provisions of the Bill are legally robust. This requires careful drafting of the text and full consideration of issues which emerge during the drafting process. However, I do not envisage that it will be necessary to hold a referendum in relation to any of the provisions of the Bill.
