274 Deputy Terence Flanagan asked the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform the number of persons in the public sector who are now in the new pension scheme introduced under the Croke Park Agreement; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29859/12]
Amharc ar fhreagraI understand that the Deputy is referring to the proposed Single Public Service Pension Scheme for new recruits to public service employment. This new scheme is being legislated for by way of the Public Service Pensions (Single Scheme) and Remuneration Bill 2011, which is a major wide-ranging and complex piece of legislation. The new scheme will apply to all future new entrants in all areas of the public service including the civil service, education sector, health sector, local authorities, Garda, Defence Forces, regulatory sector, non-commercial State bodies, Oireachtas and the judiciary. The Deputy may wish to note that I am taking this Bill giving effect to the Single Scheme at Committee Stage on 21 June. Thereafter I am committed to pressing forward with the Bill so that the new scheme can become law as soon as possible.
