520 Deputy Terence Flanagan asked the Minister for Justice and Equality the position regarding the Judges’ Pay Referendum (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29858/12]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe Deputy may be aware that, following the decision of the People in the Referendum on the Twenty Ninth Amendment of the Constitution, the Financial Emergency Measures in the Public Interest (Amendment) Act, 2011 was introduced by my colleague, the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform. That legislation, which was passed by both Houses of the Oireachtas and signed into law on 19th December 2011, provided for the application of decreases in pay, which had already been applied to other public sector employees, to serving members of the judiciary. Those changes came into effect from 1 January 2012.
