15 Deputy Barry Cowen asked the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform the reforms that he is considering to the scope of freedom of information legislation; the range of institutions to be included and the timescale involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [32478/12]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe Deputy will be aware of the significant commitments given in the Programme for Government to restore the Freedom of Information Act, to extend its remit to other public bodies including the administrative side of the Garda Síochána, subject to security exceptions and to extend the Act to ensure that all statutory bodies, and all bodies significantly funded from the public purse, are covered.
It is planned to bring proposals to Government shortly to secure approval to draft amending Freedom of Information legislation.
