Broughan asked the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government when he will introduce a national waiver scheme for low income households in relation to waste management charges; if his attention has been drawn to the fact the Fingal County Council waiver system now operated by a company (details supplied) expires in October next; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraThe Programme for Government contains a commitment to introduce competitive tendering for household waste collection, under which service providers would bid to provide waste collection services in a given area, for a given period of time and to a guaranteed level of service, a system otherwise known as ‘franchise-bidding'.
I expect to be in a position very shortly to finalise the waste policy development process, including household waste collection. All policy proposals will be carefully considered by Government and will take account of the full range of issues and perspectives, including the impact of waste charges on low income households.
