348. Deputy Noel Harrington asked the Minister for Agriculture; Food and the Marine if he will provide in tabular form, the total fish landings including those from aquaculture and from visiting fishing vessels at each of the major fishery harbour centres in terms of total tonnage and value for the year 2011 and the most up to date figures for 2012; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The following tables set out details of landings supplied by the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority into Irish Fishery Harbour Centres, including landings by Irish vessels in respect of 2011. Aquaculture data is not collected in the official EU logbook and is not available, therefore, in this format. Data for 2012 has not been fully tabulated and is not available at this time. Food Harvest 2020 recognised that the processing sector was fragmented, lacking in scale, uncompetitive in terms of production costs, too focused on export of commodity products and constrained by inconsistent supply of raw material. BIM is working to increase the number of foreign vessels which land their fish in Ireland so as to ensure a strong base on which the processing sector can continue to deliver added value to fish landings.
