Ceisteanna (187)

Derek Keating

Ceist:

187. Deputy Derek Keating asked the Minister for Health the current plans and function of Peamount Hospital, Newcastle, County Dublin; his plans to examine the development of this hospital; if he will consider discussing with Peamount Hospital the benefits of opening four to six palliative care hospice end of life care beds as an outreach service of Our Lady’s Hospice, Harold’s Cross; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that almost every region of Dublin and County Dublin is now covered for palliative care except for the far reaches of Dublin Mid-West which covers Rathcoole, Newcastle, Saggart and South Clondalkin; if he will give consideration to developing a palliative care service for this region in view of the fact that there will be no extra cost to the State and the hospital has the capacity, the environment and the trained staff to meet this needed service; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
