Ceisteanna (378)

Catherine Murphy

Ceist:

378. Deputy Catherine Murphy asked the Minister for the Environment; Community and Local Government if the social housing element of part V of the Planning and Development Act 2000 is still in place; the number of houses that have come into the housing stock from that source by county since 2011; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Government announced the standing down of all affordable housing schemes – including affordable housing delivered under Part V – in the housing policy statement published in July 2011. This did not affect Part V agreements for the delivery of social or affordable housing already entered into nor has the law relating to the operation of Part V changed since that time. However, the policy statement did indicate that a review of Part V of the Planning and Development Acts would be undertaken . That review is currently on-going and I expect the report to be delivered to me later this year. Any future changes to legislation governing Part V will be informed by that review. The social housing element of Part V of the Planning and Development Act 2000 has yielded 297 units in 2011 with 165 units in progress and 592 units proposed. The breakdown is available on my Department’s website at www.environ.ie
