Deputy Ciarán Lynch asked the Minister for Justice and Equality the number of prisoners in each institution who are diagnosed as on an enhanced regime, a standard regime or a basic regime, under the new incentivised regime arrangements; the weekly gratuity paid in each of these three categories; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraI can inform the Deputy that Incentivised Regimes were introduced on a phased basis across all prisons in 2012. Incentivised Regimes provides for a differentiation of privileges between prisoners according to their level of engagement with services and quality of behaviour. The objective is to provide tangible incentives to prisoners to participate in structured activities and to reinforce good behaviour, leading to a safer and more secure environment. The weekly gratuity is paid at the following rates: Basic €6.65, Standard €11.90 and Enhanced €15.40.
