115. Deputy Charlie McConalogue asked the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform the position regarding the Office of Public Works taking a castle (details supplied) in County Donegal into State care; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29887/13]

I believe that the process to transfer this castle into State care reached an advanced stage in 2005. At that point all action required by the State in the matter had been undertaken. It is my understanding that the landowner decided at that point not to proceed with the transfer of ownership.

There are currently no plans to bring Northburg Castle into State care and the 2013 budget for conservation works at national monument sites has already been allocated.
