Ceisteanna (256)

Paschal Donohoe

Ceist:

256. Deputy Paschal Donohoe asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if his attention has been drawn to the National Roads Authority's planned closure of the Dublin Port tunnel on seven separate occasions between now and 21 June 2013; if he will indicate the actions the NRA has proposed to undertake to ensure that HGVs do not use roads along the River Tolka in the North Strand and East Wall areas of Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport, I have responsibility for overall policy and funding in relation to the national roads programme.  The planning, design and implementation of individual road projects is a matter for the National Roads Authority (NRA) under the Roads Acts 1993 to 2007 in conjunction with the local authorities concerned. Any planned closures of the Dublin Port Tunnel is a matter for the NRA.

Noting the above position, I have referred the Deputy’s question to the NRA for direct reply.  Please advise my private office if you don’t receive a reply within 10 working days. Traffic Management in relation to HGVs is a matter for the relevant local authority, in this case, Dublin City Council.
