Ceist:

145. Deputy Michael Colreavy asked the Minister for Health the location of all specialist inpatient hospice units across the State; his plans to provide specialist inpatient hospice units at hospital sites where such facilities are not currently in place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The location of all the inpatient hospice units across the country are as follows:

Dublin North East: St. Francis Hospice, Raheny, Dublin

Dublin Mid-Leinster: Our Lady’s Hospice, in two locations, Harolds Cross, Dublin 6 and Blackrock, Co. Dublin. Lauralynn Children’s Hospice, Leopardstown, Dublin 18

West of Ireland: Donegal Hospice, Knocknamona, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal

North West Hospice, The Mall, Sligo co-located with Sligo Regional Hospital

Galway Hospice Foundation, Renmore, Co Galway

Milford Care Centre, Castletroy, Co Limerick

South of Ireland: St. Patrick’s Hospital Marymount Hospice, Curaheen, Co. Cork (Not an acute hospital – the hospital provides services for older persons).

The HSE Palliative Care Services Five Year/Medium Term Development Framework (2009-2013) details the required actions and initiatives necessary to address the gaps in service provision against the recommendations set out in the 2001 report. The HSE Assistant National Director for Acute and Palliative Care Services and the Clinical Palliative Care Programme Lead are working in partnership with regional services and national and local voluntary agencies to ensure the integration of service provision and that proposed service developments are in line with the priorities identified within the Framework.
