Deputy Eoghan Murphy asked the Minister for Justice and Equality his plans to introduce legislation that would prohibit pawnbrokers from purchasing gold or jewellery off potential customers without proof of ownership; his further plans to introduce legislation that would reprimand pawnbrokers found in possession of stolen property, that is, gold or jewellery for which they do not know the identity of the seller or hold proof that the seller was the owner at the time of sale to the pawnbroker.
