147. Deputy Mary Lou McDonald asked the Minister for Social Protection the number of retired civil or public servants who have been retained by her Department since January 2013 on a short-term contract or consultancy basis where normal abatement rules do not apply. [35850/13]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe Department has not retained any retired civil or public servants on short term contracts without applying the normal abatement rules. Following an open competition, the Pensions Board, which is under the aegis of my Department, in November 2011 and January 2012, employed two people on 3 year temporary contracts who were previously employed by An Garda Síochána and who are in receipt of Garda pensions. Abatement of pension does not apply in respect of retired members of An Garda Síochána who subsequently take up public sector employment.
