Ceisteanna (182)

Thomas P. Broughan

Ceist:

182. Deputy Thomas P. Broughan asked the Minister for Justice and Equality if he will report on whether any increased costs have been incurred from Garda resources as a result of additional policing required for the Arthur’s Day promotion since it first began a number of years ago; and if the promoters have been billed for any of the potential increased costs associated with policing for the event. The Garda Commissioner is the Accounting Officer for the Garda Vote. In that context, I am informed by the Garda authorities that while some additional costs have been incurred in respect of events linked to Arthur's Day the Garda operations involved were relatively small in scale.

I also understand that arrangements have been made for the recoupment of relevant costs in 2013. At this stage the details are being finalised and the matter is being actively pursued by the Garda authorities.
