532. Deputy Charles Flanagan asked the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government if consideration has been given to reducing the age of eligibility for the senior alert scheme from 65 to 60 years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1732/14]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe Seniors Alert Scheme aims to encourage community support for vulnerable older people in our communities by providing grant assistance towards the purchase and installation of personal monitored alarms to enable older persons, of limited means, to continue to live securely in their homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind. The Scheme is administered by local community and voluntary groups with the support of my Department.
My Department has not given consideration to reducing the age of eligibility for this scheme and there are no plans at present to change it.
