555. Deputy John O'Mahony asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine the number of horses that have been put down in each local authority area in 2013 in tabular form; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4868/14]
Amharc ar fhreagraMy Department provides funding under the Control of Horses Act, 1996 to assist local authorities with expenses incurred by them in implementing the provisions of the Act. The Act empowers local authorities to deal with stray or wandering horses. The table below, which is based on the most up to date information provided to me by local authorities sets out details of the number of horses humanely disposed by each local authority in 2013 under the Control of Horses Act. These figures are not definitive as the closing date for receipt of final data from local authorities is 10 February 2014.
