53. Deputy Dara Calleary asked the Minister for Education and Skills the full list of applicants, both primary and post-primary, from County Mayo for the 2014 summer works scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14252/14]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe Deputy will be aware that, on 20th March last, I announced that 386 schools have been approved funding under the Summer Works scheme to undertake school improvements. This first round of funding will allow schools to carry out small and medium scale building works across three categories of projects - Gas, Electrical & Mechanical.
A total of 52 primary and 23 post primary applications were received in respect of schools in county Mayo. Of these, 9 primary school and 7 post primary school applications were assessed in categories 1 to 3 i.e. Gas, Electrical and Mechanical. 8 primary school applications and 5 post primary school applications were approved for funding.
A second round of the scheme is expected to be announced in coming weeks. This round will cover other types of improvement works, with applications (category 5 to 10) including those in County Mayo still to be assessed on a top down basis in accordance with the prioritisation criteria outlined in the governing Circular Letter for the Scheme. This Circular Letter (59/2013) is available on my Department's website www.education.ie.
