338. Deputy Ciarán Lynch asked the Minister for Social Protection the cost of reinstating the Christmas bonus for persons in receipt of the contributory and non-contributory State pension; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [20878/14]
Amharc ar fhreagraPayment of a Christmas Bonus, equivalent to 100% of a person’s weekly social welfare rate, to recipients of the State Pension Contributory and Non-Contributory, would cost in the region of €106 million. There is no provision in the 2014 estimates for the Department of Social Protection for the payment of a Christmas bonus. Any re-introduction of a bonus at Christmas would have to be considered in a future budgetary context.
