Deputy Peadar Tóibín asked the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation the impact the recent US Chamber of Commerce complaint regarding Ireland's public policy lodged with the European Commission will have on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership and the investor-State dispute settlement mechanism attached to the agreement; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Included in the mandate is the recognition of the right to take measures necessary to achieve legitimate public policy objectives.
I understand that the subject matter of a letter from the US Chamber referred to by the Deputy relates to the issue of plain packaging for tobacco products. This is a matter for which the Minister for Health has primary responsibility.
