543. Deputy Jim O'Callaghan asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if the situation will be remedied with regard to the renewal of taxi licences in circumstances in which when a taxi licence is renewed it is done only by reference to the applicant’s driver’s licence and therefore does not capture criminal convictions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The regulation of the small public service vehicle, SPSV, industry, including the renewal of taxi licences, is a matter for the National Transport Authority, NTA, under the provisions of the Taxi Regulation Act 2013.
