496. Deputy Joe Carey asked the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the number of successful applications for domiciliary care allowance in 2015 and 2016; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [51690/17]
Amharc ar fhreagraDomiciliary care allowance is a payment made in respect of children under the age of 16 who have a severe disability that requires care and attention substantially in excess of another child of the same age without that disability. The need for the additional care and attention must be likely to last for at least 12 months. In 2015 a total of 4,186 applications for domiciliary care allowance were awarded while in 2016 a total of 4,996 applications were successful.
