540. Deputy Tom Neville asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport his views on a matter (details supplied) regarding the NCT; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5688/18]
Amharc ar fhreagraUnder the Road Safety Authority Act 2006 (Conferral of Functions) Order 2006 (S.I. No. 477 of 2006) the Road Safety Authority (RSA) has responsibility for the operation and delivery of the vehicle testing arrangements. For this reason, it would be inappropriate for me to comment on an individual test.
The National Car Test (NCT) is operated to the very highest quality standards and is accredited in Ireland by the Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB) to the ISO 17020 Standard. This standard is awarded to inspection bodies who demonstrate high levels of competence in the field of inspection. All aspects of the NCT process are audited including inspection methods, quality systems, independence, and test integrity.
The NCT is subject to a stringent regime of independent audit and inspection carried out by the Automobile Association (AA).
In relation to the point made regarding any statistical evidence of damage to cars, the RSA can only comment on individual cases as they arise.
