Deputy Dara Calleary asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the reason for closing the M18 road on the morning of 24 January 2018; the parameters under which the road was to be closed; if this issue was identified as part of the planning and design process; the plans in place to reduce such closures into the future; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraAs Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, I have responsibility for overall policy and funding in relation to the national roads programme. The planning, design and operation of individual roads is a matter for Transport Infrastructure Ireland under the Roads Acts 1993-2015 in conjunction with the local authorities concerned.
