Deputy Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government when he plans to make a decision on the report regarding the amalgamation of Galway city and county councils; if legislation will be required to implement the recommendations of the report; the timescale for introducing such legislation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 1540 and 1541 together.

The final report of the Galway Expert Advisory Group on Local Government Arrangements in Galway is expected to be submitted before the end of April, at which point arrangements for the review of local electoral areas will be put in place without delay. Pending receipt and consideration of this report, it is not possible to indicate what measures might arise from the recommendations of the Group.
